Joe Castiglione needs to play the MEGA Millions tonight. So does Jonathan Van Every for that matter.
“It would be a great time for Jonathan Van Every to hit his first major league home run,” said Castiglione on WRKO’s broadcast of the Boston Red Sox game versus the Cleveland Indians.
And on the very next pitch, Van Every did just that driving a pitch from Jensen Lewis over the center field wall giving Boston a 6-5 lead.
Van Every’s heroics didn’t stop there.
He added an RBI single in the eighth inning and in the ninth, Van Every made two game-saving catches which allowed Boston a chance for extra innings.
It also allowed Van Every to smash a homer off of Lewis — first of his MLB career — in the tenth inning making him the hero for the night.
Jonathan Papelbon didn’t exactly breeze through the ninth but picked up his sixth save of the season. Boston has now won two extra innings games in-a-row. Start your streak counter now.
Star of the Game – Van Every
2-for-4 with two RBI’s, one run and two web-gem type catches deserves the nod here.

Next Game – Thur. 4/30 vs. Tampa Bay Rays – Josh Beckett/Matt Garza

Boston travels to Tampa for a four game set against the Rays.
