Fireside Chats #45: Where we pull Joe Haggerty away from the Zamboni to talk baseball

Even with a 1/2 hour breaking news special this week on Manny Ramirez and his hormonal imbalance, you didn't really think that we'd be done covering the topic did you? Mix in Lou Merloni and Dan Duquette and add the expert take of Bruins Red Sox reporter Joe Haggerty and we, like Manny on his "drugs" could "go all night".

It's not all steroid talk...we also cover Youkilis and Pedroia's pains and the call up of Daniel Bard.

All that and more on Episode #45 of Fireside Chats on MVN!

5/12: The Late Show

Have I mentioned how much I hate the west coast trip?

Poll: How late will you stay up?

New Poll Question:
Let's get real here...Who really stays up until the end of every weekday west coast game?
- I'll catch the first few innings of each game
- I'm in it to the end no matter what
- Only if its close at 11:00 PM on the east coast
- I live on the west coast, so its no sweat for me

As always, new poll is up to the right...vote away and argue it out in the comments.

How much is a Penny worth?

MLB: MAY 03 Red Sox at RaysWhile they haven't shown the "stuff" that was expected of them this season thus far, the Red Sox do have rotational depth. With Daisuke Matsuzaka on his way back to the big club and Clay Buchholz and Michael Bowden in the minor leagues, decisions regarding the starting five and top alternates will soon be made.

As injuries throughout the infield (Pedroia, Youkilis, Lowrie) have started to take their toll on the Red Sox this season, the "surplus" in the starting rotation may soon be required to yield some reinforcements.

Is Jason Bay really as great a base-runner as his 2009 numbers indicate?

Now, I have to admit, it is very difficult to pick up on one's base-running skills from simply watching the games. When a ball is put in play and it looks to be driven deep into the gap, I am thinking about the ball, and watching it gloriously sail into the space between the outfielders. I am not watching the players round the bases. At least not that often.

We love you Ortiz. But what exactly does this mean?

"The fans have been the fans. There have been a few cats trying to start some B.S., but they're fine. No problems," Ortiz said. "They want to see you do the things you do, but you can't just look at the numbers. Don't just look at the numbers -- analyze the game."
