When the middle of the order goes a combined 0-10, it’s going to be a long night.
Johan Santana kept David Ortiz, Kevin Youkilis and Jason Bay hitless getting seven out of his eight strikeouts from the heart of the order earning his sixth win of the season.
Santana gave up seven hits over seven innings, three runs (two earned) and one walk.
In the second inning, Jason Varitek hit his eighth homer of the season off of Santana.
Jacoby Ellsbury extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a single in the first inning.
Goat of the Game – Middle of the Order
Simply put, 3-4-5 hitters cannot go 0-10 with seven strikeouts in a game.
Next Game – 5/23 vs. New York Mets – Mike Pelfrey/Josh Beckett
Beckett has to come back strong against the Mets in this start.
