BOS 12, NYM 5: Upon further review

If only the replay system could be used to fix David Ortiz's swing.

If only the replay system could be used to fix David Ortiz’s swing.
For the second straight day at Fenway Park a potential home run was reviewed. Kevin Youkilis hit a shot to left field in the fifth inning but it was ruled foul. Meanwhile, Ortiz continued to struggle with an 0-for-5 day including two strikeouts.
Somehow, Boston continues to win considering Ortiz left 8 men on base on the day.
Youkilis got his retribution in the seventh inning launching a three-run shot to the Monster, seventh dinger of the season, padding the Red Sox lead at 12-5.
Mike Lowell also hit a three-run homer, his eighth of the season.
Goat of the Game – Papi
With a win usually follows a Star of the Game segment. Not this time. Papi is starting to become unbearable at the plate. Today was just another example of why Ortiz needs to be moved down in the order.
Next Game – 5/25 vs. Minnesota Twins – Brad Penny/Francisco Liriano
Guarantee Ortiz sits tomorrow.

Hard to call anyone a goat when we won and took sole possession of 1st place for the first time in 2009. IMO, lots of heroes need mentioning: Lowell, Drew, Green, Kottaras, Ellsbury, Youk, Pedroia, Bay, Delcarmen, Saito. This excellent team played like an excellent team.
Papi would, in fact, be the goat of the home stand, except when you regain 1st place, winning 4 of 6 and if luck had smiled the other way would have been 6 of 6, we can only be grateful that Papi hit the ball hard, is still sober, will be dropped down in the order to take the pressure off, and we can still cheer him when he starts hitting again.
Celebrate, RSN, the Sox are in 1st place with today's losses by the Rays, Jays, Yankees & O's. It could be a see-saw battle all year, so hoist a glass of something tonight . . . and be merciful to Papi. He is having NO fun at all.
