TEX 5, BOS 1: Trade bait

If Brady Penny is going to be traded then this outing didn't help the Boston Red Sox front office.

If Brady Penny is going to be traded then this outing didn’t help the Boston Red Sox front office.
Ian Kinsler lined a three-run homer over The Monster in the fifth inning to cap off a four run frame and the Texas Rangers beat Boston, 5-1.
Penny suffered his second loss of the season pitching 5 2/3 innings, seven hits, five runs, two walks and five strikeouts.
David Ortiz drove in the lone run for Boston on an RBI single in the eighth inning.
Goat of the Game – Penny
Just not a solid outing by Penny here. Although, if Penny doesn’t give up that long ball to Kinsler it may have been a different story.
Next Game – 6/06 vs. Texas Rangers – Derek Holland/Jon Lester
The Sox need to get back on track against a starter with a 6.33 ERA.

IMO, Goat of the Game – Lugo
It actually was a good outing by Penny. A decent SS would have made that play in the 5th and would have gotten out of the innning.

Agree. Penny was NOT the goat of this game. He was dominant for four innings. He was amped up because he was going for his 100th win, and knows his next contract is being written right now. Huge pressure. Remember how long it took for Manny to hit #500?
He just needed some MLB defense to get into the 6th, and some run support to win it. He got neither.
Lugo dove right past the ball twice, setting up runs in both innings. Both of those balls should have at least been knocked down. Green and Lowrie certainly would have turned at least one, maybe both, into an out. The look on Penny's face as he stared at Lugo was one of "You nitwit. How could you let that get by. All you had to do was make the play. Now we're in big trouble." Sure he should have re-focused and bore down, but he threw a mistake and gave Kinsler all he needed to drive home the runs Lugo helped put on base.
If I were a GM with a good SS, I would think to myself that if Penny were on my team, he could have won that pitching duel. Two non-errors that added runners and kept innings going, and one run of support. If you must have a goat, it was Lugo's defense, and the offense.
