With John Smoltz set to make his Red Sox debut Thursday in the nation’s capital and Brad Penny proving he could be a valuable rotation commodity, the one starter truly struggling for the Red Sox, Daisuke Matsuzaka, is starting to feel the heat. While Terry Francona ruled out a demotion to the bullpen and Dice-K does have a no-trade clause, a DL stint could be on the horizon if Matsuzaka cannot figure it out sooner than later. And he realizes it:

Over the past 13 games, Ortiz has started 11 of them. And his line is quite pretty: .317/.404/.659. Six total extra base hits over that span, four of them home runs.
Plus, one can just tell that he’s swinging the bat much better, as Ortiz has hit some balls that have been outs at the warning track. Some line drives into the shift that look the same as routine grounders in the box score.
