Okajima has only experienced low BABIP’s throughout his 2+ years in the majors. And that “+” is this season, in which Okajima’s Batting Average on Balls in Play is sitting at .235.
Either Hideki is just that hard to pick up, or balls will start to fall in. Because pitchers have a difficulty sustaining low averages on balls off the bat. It just doesn’t happen. Not for long periods of time anyway.
Ever since Drew has established himself in the big leagues, mostly negative viewings have been made of him. There have been serious, widely-shared opinions of his inability to care about baseball. His “un-clutchiness.” His ability to “under-achieve,” etc.
So once he put on a Boston uniform I have since had this desire to see him hit in as many clutch situations as possible. To see if the rumors exist, to see if clutch exists. In this case, it would be anti-clutch, I guess. Because I am pretty sure that players don’t actually get better in clutch situations, they mostly just perform the same way.
Nick Green is making the most of this opportunity.
