Oh, we definitely have a good offense. I'm not saying we should trade our entire farm system for someone like Adrian Gonzales, I just meant that if they're going to be giving Lowell more than a few days off, and taking things very, very slowly with Lowrie in his rehab, it might not be bad to look into someone for the rest of the year.
As it is, we've been winning series after series. That's a good thing to do. But every team has room for improvement.

Looks like Lowell will be back when his DL stint ends, or after the ASB, so it is what it is. He was hot when the hip acted up, and he should again contribute HR, RBI, XBH. And Theo is well positioned to get another bat before 8/1.
With that in mind, it was good to see Kottaras finally hit one out. He is a good hitter with a powerful bat, and in June he hit the ball as advertized. Also good to see Drew and Green back to form, clutch hitting with power.
The Sox have 10 days at home against the sub .500 M's, A's, KC, then the ASB. Unless the wheels fall off, the Sox should win 7 of those 10 games, giving them 55W at the break. The Sox are now 48 - 31 in 79 games. If they take the Mariners series, they will have 50W at the half-way point of 81 games, which projects to 100W. I don't see Theo messing too much with the balance of this winning team.

Ugh, well, I always assumed that if we were going to lose one game, it was against Felix. Still, once we tied it up to go to extras, we really should have won. It's not like their pen is any good.
And is it me, or does Ramon just seem not as good in June/July compared to the first two months? We probably used him a little too much in the beginning.
I'd also like us to get a hitter if Lowell is going to be out. Kotsay is fine here and there, but I'm thinking a bit more of an oomph offensively and we go from winning a series to sweeping a series or two.

And now here come the Mariners with 1st & 3rd, - and I haven't even finished typing this before they score one - less than two out, to show us how it's done.

That was even worse than usual. I've learned that the Red Sox getting a runner on third with less than two out means the inning is over, but I wasn't expecting two consecutive Ks on pitches well out of the strike zone.

what a joy to see Wake having success... for the past few years he seemed to be the one who never got any run support... he has kicked it into high gear this year and, as Gerry said, this should be enough to garner him the honor of getting to the All-Star game!!!
Rock on, Wake!!!

Win or lose tonight, if Wake has a good game, he goes to the All Star Game, or MLB has lost its mind, heart & soul and I cancel MLB.TV, NESN and anything else I can think of. This is not a homer speaking, this is a baseball fan.
That his league leading 10-3 record, much of it as the STOPPER, carried his first place team through terrible early times with Beckett, Lester, Matsuzaka, Penny and even Smoltz, should be credentials enough. He has been the MVP pitcher of the team with the best and most consistent performance record in the AL. Period.
To hold a knuckle ball pitcher to the same ERA and WHIP standards as a power pitcher is inane. Knucklers will walk people, who will steal bases. These SB and wild pitches and passed balls, will score runs. A knuckle ball pitcher who leads the league in wins despite those liabilities, even to winning a 1 - 0 shutout, is just plain awesome.
On balance, his many double digit win-years, his age, his helping the Sox to two WS and deep into playoffs, don't even need to be factored in here, but they should, and should put him in a league of his own.
