Dice-K is going on vacation…To Florida.
Francona:
“We really don’t have a timetable,” Francona said. “This time, we’re
going to make sure that he’s ready to pitch. I guess we have some in
our head that maybe we think is realistic, but it’s a long way off.
It’s going to be entirely based on how he’s doing, so we’ll see how it
goes.”
The manager again:
“I think he needed a little bit of a break mentally, too,” Francona
said. “I think sometimes you just get fried. He worked hard while we
were gone again without a baseball. Now, we’ll get a ball back in his
hands, but just to play catch. As he gets stronger, that will certainly
increase.”
Since Matsuzaka wasn’t helping the team, the Red Sox took the most logical approach to the situation. And this will be the best thing for Dice-K, it seems.

Someone said tonight that Daisuke will essentially work his way through the normal ST process of getting in shape, which could bring him back firing on all cylinders when the roster expands 9/1. That’s one way to keep all your options open.
Perhaps after they ASB they could manipulate starts to create a quasi-6-man rotation to include Clay Buchholz. Having Daisuke and Clay on the expanded roster in September would be both awesome, and more important than showcasing Anderson or Reddick.
