Episode #52

Some people were filled with emotion upon Nomar Garciaparra’s return to Fenway Park, but not the cold heart of one Paul Testa who instead felt disgust. Paul and I react to the Nomar lovefest at Fenway Park this week as well as Tim Wakefield’s Lifetime Achievement Award 2009 All-Star nod.

You’re too hung up on 2004. Nomar won two batting titles and played great at short in the six years before then (not counting 2001 due to injury). The ovation was for his play during his entire time in Boston; and don’t forget how completely beloved he was by virtually every Sox fan. The trade in 2004 (which Nomar didn’t ask for, by the way) broke our hearts. Incidentally, in 38 games for Boston that year he hit .321 with 3 triples – hard to say he wasn’t trying. The ovation was well-deserved. I do agree that Johnny Damon deserves one as well – as soon as he loses the pinstripes! ;)
I also was a huge Nomar fan, and lost a lot of respect for him his last season. I always got the impression that he blamed the team for his decision to turn down the “alleged” contract and got himself hurt. And when the trade happened, it just seemed like it couldn’t have came at a better time.
And after the trade we went on a tear through the second half and playoffs. So it all worked out for the best(except for Nomar, and f*ck him anyway he made his bed let him sleep in it).
