Jed Lowrie went 0-for-4 in Pawtucket tonight. But that doesn’t tell the whole story.
The shortstop of the future for the Red Sox smoked two line drives to deep centerfield that were caught and made a diving play to rob Buffalo’s Wilson Valdez in the third inning. He also worked the count full twice.
Barring future setbacks, Lowrie is expected to return to the Red Sox on July 18 in Toronto, the second game after the All-Star Break.

This is great news… but now I’m really wondering if the Sox intend to carry THREE short stops for the rest of the year…
I know Lugo will be difficult to move, so I wonder if the Sox will have Lowrie spend time at 3B while he is rehabbing.
Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
First let me apologize. Teahen would have been an excellent trade for 3b++. During Mike’s absence, he probably would have been a difference maker.
I see two solutions for Julio:
1. Put him on the DL, send him to Florida with Daisuke and then slowly up through the system till he gets his legs back. Too expensive to just release, and has value when truly healthy. (I would do the same with T. Saito.)
2. The Padres Peavy. Gonzales and SS Rodriguez are hurt. I know you’re not supposed to trade for injured players, but that policy cost us players like my man Huston Street.
IMO Instead of spending the farm on Halladay, spend the same amount on both Peavy and Gonzales. Gonzales’ contract goes from $3M this year to $4.75 in 2010 and $5.5 in 2011. That’s about $5M more than most of that roster earns. Peavy’s contract goes from $8M now to $15M, $16M, $17M, to $22M in 2013 with $4M buyout.
By assuming Peavy’s contract, Theo gets leverage to also get Gonzales, and maybe get something for Julio (either by salary relief or, if required to eat his salary, fewer trade chips). Julio is a serious upgrade over Rodriguez and the rookie replacements.
Also, In a package including Buchholz and Lars Anderson, Peavy replaces Buchholz & Gonzales replaces Lars. Who else would it cost? I don’t know. About the same as for the brilliant but more expensive and 32 year old Doc.
Sorry to be such a nitpicker but I’ve seen several people type Adrian Gonzalez with an S instead of a Z and it bugs me.
Sounds like The Sox are paying Jose Iglesias like they think he’s the shortstop of the future.
