Josh Beckett capped off the first half of the season with a bang.
Beckett earned his 100th career victory pitching a complete game three-hit shutout against the Royals with no walks and seven strikeouts.
Offensively, Aaron Bates went 3-for-4 with an RBI double pacing the Red Sox offense.
Kevin Youkilis had and RBI single in the first and Rocco Baldelli knocked in a run with a double in the eighth.
Star of the Game – Beckett
Beckett was plain filthy last night with every pitch working for him.
Next Game – All Star Break
The Red Sox bullpen certainly needs this break.

Yesterday’s start was absolutely identical to Curt Schilling at his best: power fastball, nasty breaking stuff, and relentlessly pounding the strike zone.
Beckett’s last 13 starts: 9-1, 2.14 ERA. And that includes one stinker against the Phillies. After their slow starts, Beckett and Lester have reasserted themselves as the best — or at least one of the best — 1-2 punches in baseball. I can’t think of any better, including Sabathia/Burnett.
