The New York Daily News says today that “Julio Lugo already is working out at the Mets’ complex in the Dominican Republic.”
Guess we know what team he’s headed to. What I want to know is: isn’t this a violation of some sort? Lugo is still a member of the Red Sox; just designated for assignment, is all. This has to violate some sort of tampering rule.

I would guess that the rules are different for facilities in other countries. Either that, or the Sox gave the Mets permission to work out Lugo in hopes of swinging a trade.

or they’ll trade for him because they’re stupid, of course they’d be stupid to sign him in any case. Lugo is the baseball version of swine flu, good riddance

That’s a good question. I’m sure there’s some way he’s allowed to be doing that or he wouldn’t.
I agree with METS that they’re going to wait for us to eat his contract and not offer us a trade unless they want to trade us a contract they don’t want either.

If the Mets trade for Lugo, the Sox are gonna eat all of his contract. In other words, Lugo is gonna play for free for them. So, if the Mets think Lugo is of any value for them, then trading for him has sense.
And, come on, it’s not like the Mets are gonna have to give any REAL prospect. The Sox are gonna take any warm body in A ball.

Saw a funny rumor. Eric Byrnes-Julio Lugo??? wow has there ever been a trade rumor that hideous before? Byrnes is on the f’ing DL!!!
As frustrated as I’ve been with Lugo, I wish him well and hope he regains what he apparently lost when he came to Boston.

I’d take Daniel “Stone Hands” Murphy for Lugo and run with it. It wouldn’t surprise me if Omar Minaya would do something so stupid.
