Adam LaRoche and Chris Duncan in, Julio Lugo and prospects out….but none of them will be an impact in today’s game. With the Yankees win today already in the books, tonight is all about Clay Buchholz.

Buchholz needs to be better than last time, the Rangers are a better hitting team than the Jays and he needs a better line than 3BB/3K

if the rangers score here you might as well mark this one down in the loss column too

Well, not every day you see a suicide squeeze. Normally I would say 3-1 in Texas is doable to come back from, but then again, look at our offense.
BTW, 89 pitches for Buchholz through 4. Long night for bullpen?

as far as I can see he hasn’t changed at all since last year, the fastball is straight and he’s wild and easily flustered, you could see that the squeeze got to him with the way he was throwing to 1st

can we give up the idea that Suckholz is somehow going to save this season, he should be trade bait, he’s clearly overrated and can’t command his fastball whatsoever

Didn’t seem to have a problem commanding his fastball in AAA.

Question: Is Buchholz really an Ace?
Because, apparently, we have declined to trade him for V-Mart.

yeah, but he’s never commanded it where it counts, in the majors, with the exception of the no-hitter (he had 5 BBs in that one by the way), this offense is beyond pathetic

On the other hand, everybody is an Ace against our offense. We can raise the confidence of every pitcher right now :S

If I’m Theo I’m not necessarily panicking, but I have to think about a serious overhaul. I’d start by offering the Padres Buchholz, Bowden, and LaRoche for Gonzales and maybe even throwing in Reddick or Hagadone to get it done. Or seeing if the Indians are still willing to take Buchholz for Martinez. I understand holding on to prospects, but at some point you actually have to improve your team. Could have done it in the offseason if they hadn’t tried to get cheap with Teixeira.

Well, I think the LaRoche trade is a step in the right direction, so I’m gonna give the FO the benefit of the doubt. Evidently they don’t think too highly of V-Mart. Maybe for his age, or for his declining catching abilities.
But this team needs an offensive upgrade down the line. And I still hope we are going to make a move for an elite hitter in the near future.

But, man, this offense really SUCKS. It’s painfull to see… The entire lineup looks completely overmatched.

I think that if they trade Buchholz, they want someone who’s young (under 30), and controllable for a while, more than a year and a half anyway. V-Mart isn’t old, but he can’t catch full time, and not really I can see them locking up in an extension for a few more years to be a back-up C/1B.
And I still like Buchholz, and don’t blame Theo for not trading him away for just anybody. I think he can be a #2 starter, and to slot him behind Beckett, Lester, and later Dice-K would be a formidable rotation.

Ok, so the mood in here is kinda grim, I’ll try to lighten it:
For no discernible reason, in 1934 the Red Sox bulldozed a perfectly fine section of concrete-and-steel seating (around current-day sections 11-13) and rebuilt it 3 feet lower.

    thanks for that Sean-O.
so Bob thinks that LaRoche is going to get flipped for the elite hitter. I suppose that’s feasible if you’re getting an elite 1st basemen.
I tend to agree with the assessment that Buchholz is overrated (and not just because of the performance tonight). Just can’t help but think that if he is going to be as successful as everyone thinks, it’ll be the change of scenery that will bring it about.

I’m not saying that it’s likely that LaRoche will be flipped, but i’m saying that he could be as part of a bigger package, or a 3 team deal that brings a bigger bat. more likely, what you see now is what it’ll be all year, which is really a travesty

We need power in this lineup. I would offer masterson and another prospect to the nats for dunn. We should send them drew to and pay his whole contract if they will take him.
