MLB opened ‘cursory’ investigation into PEDs in Sox staff last year

The Boston Globe today has a special report regarding the use of performance enhancing drugs in the Red Sox clubhouse.
Just before last year’s All-Star Break, police confiscated steroids from a (now former) security guard at Fenway Park named Nicholas Alex Cyr. Cyr said he got the steroids from Jared Remy, another (ex) security staffer, the son of Jerry Remy. Jared Remy says he was not the supplier, but conceded he has used steroids.
Both men said they were unaware of any PED usage by Manny Ramirez or David Ortiz. However, one of the guards “swapped advice about steroids with David Ortiz’s close friend and personal assistant.” It’s not enough to indict Ortiz in the slightest, but the fact here is that Major League Baseball didn’t even know this — they opened what the guards termed a “cursory” investigation and that was that.

Major League Baseball defended its investigation as “thorough and detailed” and said that it led to further “investigative activities” that it would not disclose. The league would not say whether Ortiz or Ramírez were interviewed in the case.
“The contents of these interviews and the results of the investigation, like all department of investigations activities, are confidential,” MLB said in a statement.

There’s nothing particularly “bombshell” in this article: it basically talks about how MLB allegedly tried to sweep the incident under the rug.
The only possible connection to a Red Sox comes from that close friend of Ortiz’s, who is facing deportation thanks to identity theft.
You draw your own conclusions.

No conclusions can/should be drawn until we get the facts.

I remember seeing Jared Remy in the room behind the booth once on t.v. He was hilarious looking, all swollen like one of those freaks you see in the gym. This whole thing is getting weirder by the day.

Wow what a shocking expose!! Security guards taking steroids. It’s not like bulk or strength are preferable for jobs like that huh?
Sorry but this is a sexy non-story. Bet if you look at the security personnel of every major “anything” you’ll find lots of bloated bodies.
I am sorry for Jerry Remy though. His son comes across as a real loser.
