Ellsbury showing critics (me) why he should be batting leadoff.

This is why we write blogs–to inspire people, players.  And since I wrote that blog questioning whether or not we as fans felt that Jacoby Ellsbury was worthy of leading off, he has gone on an absolute tear.

Seriously, a tear.  A .439/500/.659 line.  Five extra base hits in the nine total games.

I know it’s a very small sample, but it is great to know Jacoby is reading Fire Brand  :)

I am still skeptical, for I know he isn’t this good (no one is).  But his hot streak has been great to watch, and if he can continue to play well, then obviously he is the best option to lead off.

Rogers Hornsby was awfully close in 1924 with a .424/.507/.696/1.203.
Honestly, can you imagine someone producing like Ellsbury has for the previous 10 days for an entire season?

It would be pretty crazy, that is fur sure.

Agreed that would be amazing. I think we are seeing Ellsbury’s potential, finally. In other words, although he will not hit .400 he CAN hit for a high average with some power. And plate discipline can be learned.

No, I can’t see him or anyone sustaining this level of play for long . . . maybe Pujols. But this streak indicates his offensive skills are catching up to his defense.
He’s adjusting. He has started to grind pitchers deep into counts, working BB, spraying his hits like Pete Runnells, bunting, even while showing power. I wonder if he can use the wall like Lowrie did. I think Bill James predicted a .302BA season and he may be conservative. Jacoby long term as a Gold Glove CF, a .300/15/60/100+R/.365/.465 hitter with 70SB. He is growing into his legend, I think.
