GAME NOTES: The former Royal, Paul Byrd, will take on the likely Cy Young winner. Zach Grienke is basically the only good thing the Royals have going for them at the moment. x

At least we’re losing right away; no egregious lead-blowing tonight!
    Gawd, Byrd sucks.

No one really expected Byrd to beat Greinke tonight, unless he was having an off night, which he didn’t. Byrd sucked in the first inning, but he and the Pen did better than expected the rest of the way. That’s two good closings for Bowden, which is hopeful.
It is mind-blowing that this team which charged through the Angels, Rays & O’s suddenly hit a wall vs. KC. Actually, they did great last night. It was the coaching staff who didn’t react to poor pitching in a timely manner that gave up an 8-2 lead in the 6th.
Tonight we got what we expected. Greinke for Cy. It was good seeing Coco’s interview with Heidi before the game. Ells has certainly filled those shoes, and Ramon has been terrific, but what a classy guy is Coco Crisp.

A little more on the coaching. Just in case the Sox, against the KC Pen, had another of their famous late inning rallies, why not let Gathright pinch run for Papi in the 9th. Rest Papi, get Joey’s juices flowing. For that matter, why not put Reddick in for Kotchman on 1st base . . . just in case. If there were more innings, Tito would still have had Rocco, Anderson for the OF and Lowrie, Woodward for the IF, and Kottaras & Brown as catchers. Why not even pretend that we wanted to win the game, maybe squeeze a run or two across and feel good for tomorrow. I don’t get it.
