Also I think the poll should have another option... The "3rd" catcher, as in the best defensive catcher available, should take Varitek's spot on the roster all together.

In Peter Gammons' blog he wrote that there have been conversations about bringing up Tim Fedorowitz (sic) from the minors. I don't know if he's on the 40 man and could play in the playoffs but this thing is obviously on the Sox' minds. He also mentions that Martinez wasn't catching much at all in Cleveland. We all know he's a better hitter as a 1b/DH, and I hope we all know the Sox need a catcher for next season whose name isn't Varitek or Martinez. At this point the 3rd catcher for the playoffs isn't a question of if but who.

He had the same surgery AGon had this year. He had bone chips removed. Its not like the guy had TJ surgery. And I wouldn't pay much attention to VMart's throwing percentage this year, since he hasn't caught many games. That being said he doesn't have the strongest arm in baseball, but at least he can hit and he once threw out 37%.

I'd like to say that it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if he exercises his player option for next year and is used as the secondary catcher, I fear that without regular playing time, his bat will go from mostly to completely useless. What I'd really like to see as the Sox keeping him on in a coaching capacity.

The question with Victor Martinez is whether his arm will ever be the same after having elbow surgery last year.

I stuck a fork in him when he was hitting .255 ave. These days i'd stick a knife in him. Of course I'm joking, but beyond frustrated with this guy.
