Yes, but Mike was doing well before he started needing another injection and his hip drained again. I am impressed with how well he played in between his injections, both on the field (despite his range) and at bat. Remember that last year he played through real pain. This year he is playing better with less pain, until recently.
IMO, two things will happen as a result of the "Lowell Procedure". He will heal very well and tear it up next season, which will either be his contract year or swan song year, or he won't heal well and he will be a part timer off the bench or sharing DH. Everything I have heard and read about his condition, and his excellent conditioning, indicates that he will come back strong next year. Theo will know before ST and have plenty of time to act if necessary.
Too bad Kotchman's slump comes at such a bad time. His Atlanta numbers (.282/.354) are legit. I thought he would do better at Fenway, even using the wall for doubles. I know Tito and the scouts are expecting that. There is still time.
