New Poll Question: Who should be considered the No. 3 starter?

  • Clay Buchholz
  • Daisuke Matsuzaka
  • Tim Wakefield
  • My grandmother

In the wake of Clay Buchholz’s poor start in Toronto, it’s a legitimate question. We determined Dice-K should be the No. 4 starter in a previous poll, but should he jump up a notch?

As always, new poll is up to the right…vote away and argue it out in the comments.

Previous Poll Results:If the playoffs started now, who should be the Sox’s No. 4 starter?
‘No’ is certainly the logical answer, but will the Sox do it? I don’t know. They may want Varitek to start a game here and there and keep V-Mart’s bat in the lineup at first. That would dictate a backup catcher… so don’t be surprised to see three.

It’s tough to say after his disaster last night, but I have to go with Buchholz on this one. He’s been better in the second half and is really the least shaky at this point.
Wake’s injury problems have made him perhaps the biggest question mark of them all.
Daisuke is someone I don’t think I’ll ever have confidence in and he just can’t find the plate…ever.
I’m sure your grandma has one hell of a heater, but I’d have to see her throw first.
Buchholz for me as I’ll chalk up last night to just a bad start. They happen to everyone.

Depends on their final starts, Friday for Dice and Sunday for Buch. If Buch pitches well, Buch is #3 based on the last 2 months overall. But if Buch has another bad start, I’d be very concerned that his mental toughness is faltering again (like 2008) and probably go with Dice as the #3, although I’m also concerned that Dice’s perpetual nibbling of the zone will lead to walks and lots of stolen bases by the Angels.
