In yet another mortar shelling, the Red Sox came up empty in Wednesday night’s beating at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays, losing 12-0. For those of you keeping count, that’s six consecutive losses on two straight sweeps.
Roy Halladay had a no hitter going into the sixth, before Joey Gathright, of all people, broke it up with a weak single that NESN proceeded to play on loop like it was an ALCS walk off homer, but hey… gotta hang on to the small miracles… right?
And the miracles were pretty tiny last night. In addition to a stellar web gem, Gathright was responsible for two of the three Red Sox hits on the night. Rocco Baldelli was responsible for the other.
The Doc went the distance, while the Red Sox used seven pitchers after Tim Wakefield was knocked around for five earned runs in his three innings of work. For the second night in a row, home runs were given up to everybody and their uncle, including Lyle Overbay, Jose Batista, and two from Randy Ruiz.
Tonight’s, “Yes… I Actually Am on the Team” Award goes to Joey Gathright… who knew?
Next game: 10/1 – BOS vs. CLE – Lester / Carrasco
