With Kenji's salary added to the lot, Z has $50+ fouind money to play with. Part of that will go to Felix as the anchor of the new M's. It might be the Mariners that pick up Chone for LF, giving them the D and OBP they are building towards. With a few tweaks, Felix, and spending that money, this team could compete in the ALW next year, and that's amazing. They will build this team around the King & Ichiro.

how is this a solution? this is one of the weaknesses that needs to be corrected for this team to compete for a division title next year. all you're doing is bringing back the exact same pieces you had last year.

that's not a solution... that's doing nothing and hoping ortiz has a 'bounce back' year and baldelli stays healthy enough to contribute.

championship clubs don't compete every year based on hope. they compete on sound decision making and this is not it.

Keep dreaming about getting Felix. The Mariner's have the money to keep him, especially with all the salary coming off the books. If only we could do something about that Carlos Silva contract though geeze...

Are you retarded? Why would the Mariners take on Mike Lowell's crypt keeper ass, along with some bums for their franchise player? They may not be able to afford him after his contract is up, but is that any reason to take on a bunch of shit, with 1 decent pitcher? And DHing Branyon...you are retarded, why did I even bother asking?

There's no way the Mariners would make that deal for Felix. Even if the Red Sox picked up Lowell's salary, no deal.

Anyway, if the Red Sox want to make a blockbuster trade for anyone, it should be with the Padres for Adrian Gonzalez, not for any pitcher. Make that deal, keep Buchholz and find a shortstop.

Do you think other teams exist, so they can benefit the Sox? What an idiot...

If you want Felix, the package better start with Lester because he will be the best pitcher in the league and he's only 23 and Seattle is not trading him for a bunch of garbage you mentioned.

How about instead of signing Figgins, the Sox go for a cheaper, younger and more comparable player to Bay. I'm hoping the Sox try to sign M. Byrd. He can play all three OF spots and has posted an .800+ OPS over each of the last three seasons. He will be much cheaper in terms of years and dollars in comparison to most of the other replacements floated around.

Now when it comes to trading for King Felix, I think your Seattle would laugh you out of town with that offer, Evan. Really, Lowell and Kotchman hold little value, especially when you consider Lowells health, age and salary. Besides, I think holding onto Clay not only gives the Sox a rising star in the rotation, but also allows them financial flexibility to resign Beckett/Martinez and make a play for Mauer.

My Sox 2010 roster:

Lineup

CF Ellsbury
2B Pedroia
C/1B Martinez
1B/3B Youkilis
DH Ortiz
LF Byrd
RF Drew
3B Lowell
SS Gonzalez(option not picked up, but a deal worked out)

Starters

Beckett
Lester
Buchholz
Matsuzaka
Wakefield
* B. Sheets or B. Myers signed to performance based contracts

Relief

Papelbon
Bard
Okajima
Ramirez
Delcarmen
Saito

I like your thought process here, especially the figgins idea. I think it's absolutely essential that the Red Sox re-sign Bay and I think another power bat is necessary, but I just don't see where one can be had so it looks like we're going to have to cross our fingers and hope Lars Anderson pans out. I think trading for Hernandez would be a great idea as it gives us the best righty/lefty combo possible for the next 5 years at least. Buchholz, Bowden, Reddick, Kalish, and a lower level pitcher like Fife or Pimentel gets it done and in my mind is worth it for a guy whos a top-rotation stud and the Sox could control through his prime.

I love Figgins as a player, but not as a 4-5 year contract. Lowell is at the end of a contract right now that is a burden. Chone gets hurt a lot, and I see his last year or two of a 5 year contract with a lot of time on the bench. Speed ages quicker than power, and that's where a lot of his value lies.

If we can trade Lowell to someone who needs 1 year of 3B, and might want the veteran presence, we do it for cheap. We'd have to foot a lot of the bill. Still, I would love to do this. Having both Ortiz and Lowell on the roster next year is a depressing thought.

I'd love to move Youk to third, and Kotchman or V-Mart to first for full time duties. If it's Casey at first, V-mart behind the dish. If it's Victor at first, then we get a replacement catcher (with a good arm., please).

As for Hernandez? Buchholz is the better value right now. Lester, Buchholz, and Daisuke is a good core moving into 2011. I think it would be stupid to trade Clay for Felix, considering the king is about to get a huge ransom. No thanks.
