Although he's not a free agent, Connor Jackson can be got cheaply and he's one hell of a player when facing LH pitching: .297/.396/.470 career line vs LHP. Definitely an option!

Value at SP - Maybe Pedro still has something left. Wouldn't that be fun and under the radar.
Value in BP - I'd like to see Donnelly have another chance here. He pitched well for FLA last year.
Lefty mash - Sheffeild.

Just names.

Another excellent piece. Thanks. How about looking for a power righty bat to platoon with Hermida in our own back yard. Jeff Bailey mashes lefties. Even at MLB, in 60AB. He will be 32 for 2010, is a professional ball player with adequate defense, high OBP, and 25HR power. He's comfortable at Fenway, and has been blocked for years. He has a few years to go, and this is his last shot at an MLB contract. IMO he can do this. I'd be more comfortable with, and more confident in, Jeff over Andruw or other aging ex-sluggers. If we're not going to trade him, why not move him up as 5thOF and move someone else up fto AAA.

I'm sure you're right. Though, in Pavano's defense, he was a surprisingly effective pitcher last season. A lot of the reason that he is so poorly regarded is because of his tenure with the Yankees when he so grossly failed his expectations.

However, he's an effective pitcher and would be an excellent 5th starter spot for a cheap price. I'd love to see him in a Sox uniform come 2010, especially if Harden re-signs with the Cubs, which is looking more likely by the day.

I'm sure I'm not the only person whose eye-rolling response is triggered at the mention of Carl Pavano. Although it would be hilarious to see him pitching (and winning) against the Yankees.
