GAME NOTES
I’ll admit it, I didn’t know much about tonight’s Angels’ starter Tyler Chatwood, so I contacted Garrett Wilson of MonkeyWithAHalo.com (with whom Fire Brand will be holding a chat during Saturday’s game) for the scouting report on Chatwood.  Here’s what Garrett had to say:

Because he throws hard but is only 6’0″, he draws a lot of comparisons to Roy Oswalt. The book on him is that he is   supposed to have a power sinker that can touch 97 mph, but thus far in the pros, his fastball looks pretty straight and maxes out at 94, so there is some question about if he maybe is pitching a little scared with his heater. What has proven true is that he has a big nasty curveball that has already proven to be a real knee-buckler. He has a developing changeup he can mix in too, but it is pretty inconsistent which basically makes him a two-pitch guy for the most part. Finally, he may only be 21, but he seems pretty poised, so don’t expect him to get rattled.

PLAYER OF THE DAY
On April 21, 1939 Ted Williams scored the first of 1798 career runs.  He scored on a pass ball that went threw the legs of Philadelphia Athletics catcher Frankie Hayes.  Hayes played 14 major league seasons, 11 with the Philadelphia Athletics.  His career was nearly over when he played five games for the Red Sox in 1947 totaling 13 plate appearances, but he was a 5-time all-star in his prime with Philadelphia.

On Saturday, during the Red Sox vs. Angels game at 9:05, Troy and others here at Fire Brand will be holding a live chat. We will be joined by Angels blogger Garrett Wilson of Monkey With a Halo. Please join us and in the meantime check out Garrett’s site, www.monkeywithahalo.com to read up on the Sox’ opponent.
