Quick update on my recent posts regarding Jed Lowrie, and his bum left shoulder (here and here).

According to Sean McAdam of CSNNE, Lowrie met with Dr. Lewis Yocum yesterday to receive a second opinion on his ailing shoulder.  Despite multiple reports to the contrary, Yocum concurred with the Red Sox medical staff’s initial diagnosis of a strained left shoulder, and stated he will not require surgery.

This is great news for both Lowrie and the Red Sox, as it means the front office doesn’t have to make long-term contingency plans for the shortstop position.  In the interim, the red hot (but apparently sick) Marco Scutaro will take the reigns as the starter with Drew Sutton backing him up.

Lowrie will likely remain on the disabled list for the next two or three weeks to ensure a full recovery.
