Bobby Valentine is a big name. Boston is a big market. But do the two fit together? Troy doesn’t really think so and Chip wonders if ownership and the media should be putting so much weight on the role of a manager. A previous poll showed that Fire Brand readers believe that a manager does play a very important role, but do they believe that Bobby V is the man for the job?

Last week, we asked who what player you would trade if the choice was yours…

Who Would You Trade?

  • Kevin Youkilis (31%, 84 Votes) – Just as the trade rumors suggest, Youk seems like the man everyone wants to move. However, I believe that if David Ortiz signs elsewhere, Youk could have a nice bounce-back season.
  • Jed Lowrie (23%, 63 Votes) – I’ve never been as high on Lowrie as it seems a lot of others have. While I think he has the underlying skills to be a nice player, I’m not sure he excels as an everyday guy. Other teams seem to still be high on him, however, so I’d be intrigued to see what type of offers would come in.
  • Josh Reddick (23%, 61 Votes) – This would be a decent sell-high. Reddick had an explosive start when he was called-up from triple-A this past season, but there are more than a few prospect gurus who wonder if he’s nothing more than a league average major leaguer in the long run.
  • Jacoby Ellsbury (10%, 26 Votes) – Ells is going to be getting very expensive and fast. Some have suggested that the Sox might be wise to sell while his value is possibly at an all-time high. However, given his incredible 2011 season, it would take a mammoth return to appease Red Sox Nation.
  • Ryan Kalish (5%, 14 Votes) – I’m a believer in Kalish and think he’ll be a fine regular if he can stay healthy.
  • Other (4%, 12 Votes)
  • Prospects only (4%, 9 Votes)
