Poll: Is Bobby V Already Screwing Up?

In light of his recent comments and the “return fire” provided by Dustin Pedroia, we ask Red Sox Nation if Bobby Valentine is already screwing up, especially in terms of his clubhouse management. Chip went in depth on the issue earlier today.

Look at his comments on Youk and his action to let Bard pitch up to 111 as a first year SP today. This is not a choice for Red Sox

I have lost a lot of my enthusiasm for the Red Sox.. Bobby Valentine loves to see himself in print and on tv. The guy has a bigger ego than New England. I get sick of reading about him and what he thinks. I root for the players on the team not some manager who seems to know it all.

Unfortunately, you are right. What's telling is his recent reference to his comments about Ortiz. He said he went down in the summer to the Dominican Republic to talk Ortiz into a one year contract, etc. Bobby V. said," I went down and told him I wanted him on "team mine"". It's the summer and he's brand new. It's not "the team" but "his" team. He hadn't earned that yet. Heck, he hadn't met everyone, yet. It's still the team's team.

Bobby V needs to take a step (or ten) back and let the guys play. He can take all the credit he wants IF THEY WIN. But just shut up and let them play. Please.

in what alternate universe could we politely beg Tito to come back and have him do so?!?!?
oh, wait, the deep pockets of ownership might not want that… too bad

    i miss Francona… a LOT

Valentine needs to just shut up. Nine games in is the time for talk radio commentators to wig out, not managers. Particularly not managers of a team that had recovered from a slow start to smack around a division rival to get right back into things. Especially not managers whose bullpen decisions had a heck of a lot more to do with the slow start than Youk's slow nine games in the first place!! I can only imagine what Valentine would have said about Big Papi in 2009 or 2010…

Valentine has been brought in to stir the pot. Mission accomplished. The ownership didn't want to put themselves into a Steinbrenner situation, so they hired a manager that could take the heat.

This is like the Bronx Zoo of the 70's….someone needs to come up with an appropriate nickname.

Bobby's Darn Sox? Nah, I don't like that one either

One of the most annoying traits of human nature is a person's tendency to parrot thoughts and opinions they hear from other people without any ability to draw their own conclusions. How is Bobby Valentine messing up? Last I looked he was successfully navigating them through the most difficult April schedule in MLB. This whole "issue" is a fabrication by marketing executives working for the profit monster known as NESN, and look how well it's working. If this was Terry Francona managing with a staff this trashed by injuries, we would have all seen the same lineup marched out over and over again regardless of success, and the record would be worse. Pedroia was a mile out of line with what he said, and a lot of Red Sox fans I know have been quietly saying the same things about Youk for the last couple years. So Bobby Valentine is trying to poke Youk a little. So what? It's funny though that Youkilis is the same player who called Ellsbury out two years ago for the exact same thing and then has missed more than 140 games since. Bobby Valentine is the boss and he has every right to say stuff like that, and people with half a brain of their own are more than capable of reading what he said in context and not freaking out because some dork responsible for ratings is trying to drive attention away from the fact that the outfield in Boston is Mike Sweeney, Cody Ross and Darnell McDonald. And look at the ants scatter……..
