"Price himself right out of Toronto"? Perhaps you haven't been paying attention...the Jays just boosted their payroll to 125 million without blinking.

If he chooses to not sign with the Jays, or if they choose not to sign him because of performance issues, sure. But frankly, the Jays have as much (more) money than anyone to spend. And I mean, anyone.

Agree with pretty much everything you've said. The Red Sox have a plan to rebuild, reload and get better. it should not be affected in any way by what another team decides to do. Not even the Yankees, and certainly not the Blue Jays.

In addition to your other cautions about the players (and contracts) acquired by the Jays, you should have mentioned that Johnson is a free agent after next season. If he does stay healthy and pitch the way he has in the past, he'll likely price himself right out of Toronto.

Buehrle's greatest attribute is his health and durability. He's otherwise a very hitable pitcher who will be a steady No. 3 starter at best in the A.L. East. He's also carrying a high price tag with a lot of backloaded dough, and he's not getting any younger.

Reyes is a mercurial performer, but not worth anything close to what he's going to cost. And he's a perennial injury risk.

I think we should focus on starting pitching and a 1B as our immediate priorities, OF as secondary priority. I'll call this off season a success if we land an arm and one of either Napoli or Swisher. We should not overpay for Ross, as much as I liked him being a Sox. Just heard Logan Morrison is on the block too, which might be a nice addition via trade, depending on what we have to give up.

Sorry, but the fact the Red Sox let go of Pedro, Trotty, Bay, Martinez and Ross were all GREAT things for the Red Sox. Did you not see the statistics of all those players once they left the Red Sox? Pedro had ONE dominant season, Nixon was a crappy bench player, Bay cant hit a beachball and Martinez missed a year due to injury. Ross is not worth the money he is looking for and...well... Beltre I miss but we have Will Middlebrooks to be an adequate solution at 3B for the future. Seriously you just picked up some examples for why its a GREAT thing that the Red Sox let players go and you defeated your whole argument by thinking with your heart and not your brain.
