Myers is no longshot, but as a prospect neither is he a sure thing to hit for more power than, say, WMB, Lava, Bogaerts, Brentz, Sands, Napoli, maybe even Gomez. A legitimate concern about him is his K-rate at AA and AAA. How will that
translate, especially if he is rushed. Adam Dunn? My other
concern is his defense, which seems OK for LF but not better
than Jerry Sands, who also projects as a big bat. I know,
Myers is the best hitting prospect in the minors, but he is not
without issues. On a team which hopes to field proven 30HR guys like Papi, WMB, Lava, Napoli, Ells, maybe Sands on the bench, plus PD and Gomes, IMO the greater need is pitching.
Just like Myers is no longshot to succeed, neither is it a longshot for Lester to rebound as one of the top lefties in
baseball, a truly rare commodity who Is likely to have a greater
influence on 2013 and 2014 than Myers.

Hunter said Jon can be replaced by the current batch of available money. Actually two pitchers will be needed. Assume
Sanchez for 5 years at $75-80M? If money is no object, sign
him and keep Lester. Then trade for Myers on more of a MLB ready prospect to prospect basis, say Doubront or DLR, Wilson
and Brentz. If he goes to another team and we need another
long term 30HR guy, trade for Ike Davis, who has the benefit of
great defense at 1B.
I like Myers. I value the rebound of Lester even more. Pete Abe and Finn were neither crying nor rejoicing, but gave legit arguments on both sides. I just wish they had constructed a
different trade scenario than Lester with which to pursue Myers.

Moore has very little to show for his drafts? Ever hear of Mike Moustakas? Eric Hosmer? Aaron Crow? Greg Holland? Oh, and wouldn't you just know it, Wil Myers too?

Poor drafts have been the least of Moore's failings. In fact, he has been known as a savvy drafter. Considering that Moustakas was Moore's first rounder in his very first draft, and Moustakas just turned 24 years old, it's a bit too early to say that "he has little to show for his drafts."

And yes, you're absolutely right, if the Red Sox could get Myers for Lester, Ben Cherington would have done this all day every day and twice on Sunday already. And driven Jon to the airport as part of the bargain. That's why you know it's nothing more than media speculation.

When i first head about the rumor, I just hoped they would want Lester over Shields. I'd do the trade in a heart beat. This guy is a stud and to put him with Bogaerts and middlebrooks would be special. Hoping the red sox rly push this in the meetings.
