Over the next few episodes of Fireside Chats, we will be looking at the 2014 team by comparing players 2014 expectations to their 2013 results. Will the Red Sox have enough new offense to replace the loss of Jacoby Ellsbury? How much better will the left side of the infield be with the dynamic youthful combination of Xander Bogaerts and Will Middlebrooks? Who will replace Ryan Dempster’s innings in 2014?

Today we start with a walk around the infield and while it may be Tim’s 101.5 degree fever talking or just the optimism of spring, despite a 1-4 start to the Grapefruit League schedule our co-hosts are in a good mood after taking a look at the 2014 Red Sox starting infield.

Some things we think:

  • Mike Napoli should easily be able to repeat, if not improve upon his first season in Boston.
  • Dustin Pedroia will continue to be a rock at 2B while seeing improved power now that his thumb is healthy.
  • Xander Bogaerts will make us say “Drew Who” on his way to being the face of MLB, solving world hunger and finding other life in distant galaxies.
  • Will Middlebrooks is the wild card — Huge potential if he can bring it all together in a make or break year for him in Boston.

All that and more on this week’s edition of Fireside Chats.

Thanks for listening!
