The Boston Red Sox made some more cuts on Sunday before the contest against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Pitchers Rich Hill, Dalier Hinojosa and John Ely were all reassigned to minor league camp. Dan Butler, a catcher, was optioned to Pawtucket. Jose Mijares was outright released.

Hill was dealing with the loss of his newborn son and came to spring training late. According to Rob Bradford, he has an option on May 15 to opt out of his deal if he isn’t up with the big league club. Hill has not allowed a run in his three outings.

Hinojosa has been inconsistent, but that can be expected from a pitcher who did not pitch in 2013 while executing his defection from Cuba. Don’t count him out just yet.

Butler had another impressive spring and will likely be an option if the Red Sox need some catching help at some point this season.

Mijares looked lost on the mound at times and the Red Sox decided it was time to move on.
