Before Wednesday’s game against the Seattle Mariners, Clay Buchholz was officially activated from the 15-day disabled list. In order to make room on the 25-man roster, the Boston Red Sox designated Chris Capuano for assignment.

The lefty was 1-1 on the season with a 4.55 ERA after starting the season with 12 scoreless appearance encompassing 15 innings. Since then, he has allowed 16 earned runs in 16.1 innings in 16 appearances. With Felix Doubront spending some time in the bullpen, Capuano was the odd-man out with three other left-handed pitchers coming out of the pen.

Buchholz will make his first start since a three inning start against the Atlanta Braves back on May 26. With 30 days between starts, the 29-year-old looks to rebound from what was a subpar year with a 2-4 record with an unflattering 7.02 ERA in just 50 innings.

The Red Sox will likely go with a six-man rotation for the time being to see what Buchholz has to offer. Rubby De La Rosa and Brandon Workman both have sub-3.00 ERAs and deserve to stay up with the Red Sox until they prove otherwise.

The only way these three can all stay in the rotation is if the Red Sox trade a starter. Maybe, Jake Peavy is an option to be moved?
