According to Nikkan Sports in Japan (In Japanese) Dr. Yocum has suggested that Daisuke Matsuzaka get Tommy John Surgery. This confirms what we had all suspected and likely ends Matsuzaka’s career in Boston. As Chip discussed before his surgery might allow him to return near the end of 2012, but that requires the Red Sox to need him at that time and not to have found a better option.

With John Lackey back soon and the Alfredo Aceves experiment not going well in the last game I think it’s fair to expect Tim Wakefield will take Matsuzaka’s spot in the rotation for the time being. The other option could be Felix Dubrount, but it surely won’t be Kevin Millwood who confirmed what we all thought by going only 2.2 IP Wednesday night giving up 5 H and 4 R. He walked 2 and only struck out 3.
