The Boston Red Sox made a few more moves before Thursday’s contest against the New York Yankees.

Brock Holt and Rubby De La Rosa were both optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket before the game. Brandon Snyder was reassigned to minor league camp.

Holt was one of two options the Red Sox had heading into spring training for the utility infield role, which now falls to Jonathan Herrera for the start of the 2014 season. Holt will be up at some point this season in some sort of role.

Herrera played in 81 games with the Colorado Rockies last season at mainly second and shortstop. The 29-year-old was working a lot at third defensively this spring. The added bonuses for Herrera are that he is a switch-hitting infielder and can provide a solid defensive glove off the bench.

Snyder is a great young player, but still has a few flaws with his swing and glove to be up with the Red Sox.

De La Rosa will eventually be something huge at the major league level, but looked average this spring. The 25-year-old will likely be a starter in the minors going forward.
