TOR 11, BOS 5: Too Much To Ask

Written on September 29th, 2009 by Jake DiGregorio51631 Commenthttp://firebrandal.com/2009/09/29/tor-11-bos-5-too-much-to-ask.htmlTOR+11%2C+BOS+5%3A+Too+Much+To+Ask2009-09-29+04%3A04%3A01Jake+DiGregorio

Michael Bowden was stretched too thin, giving up five hits and five earned runs in just over two innings of work. The bullpen did not help matters, as Hunter Jones handed the Blue Jays another four on the way to an 11-5 loss.

Kevin Youkilis and David Ortiz would not go silently into the good night, but the pitching, or lack thereof, proved to be a bit too much to overcome, especially in a rain-shortened game.

Jones, Lopez return to Triple-A for second shot

MLB: APR 12 Red Sox at Angels

Call it a second chance.

Call it a shot at redemption.

Call it whatever you want but for Javier Lopez and Hunter Jones, their return to Pawtucket shows that the Boston Red Sox haven’t given up completely on the two left-handers.

But they might have been justified in doing so with Lopez.

BOS 12, BAL 1: Sox rout O’s for series sweep

What’s the impact of Justin Masterson in the rotation?

Written on April 16th, 2009 by Evan Brunell42428 Commentshttp://firebrandal.com/2009/04/16/whats-the-impact-of-justin-masterson-in-the-rotation.htmlWhat%27s+the+impact+of+Justin+Masterson+in+the+rotation%3F2009-04-16+14%3A00%3A00Evan+Brunell

All indications point to Justin Masterson taking Dice-K’s place in the rotation after Dice was placed on the 15-day DL with arm fatigue.

As Masterson prepares to face the Orioles on Patriots Day, the trickle-down effect is significant, especially with the specter of the Josh Beckett suspension hanging over the team.

Masterson was a versatile option out of the bullpen that changes the makeup of the pen significantly. Masterson and Okajima were the two options out of the gate in the seventh and eighth to close out a game with the lead. Now, Saito likely takes Masterson’s role, with Manny Delcarmen elevated in a role where the Sox pitch from behind.

PawSox: Locked and Loaded for ‘09

Written on April 12th, 2009 by Mike Edelman42214 Commentshttp://firebrandal.com/2009/04/12/pawsox-locked-and-loaded-for-09.htmlPawSox%3A+Locked+and+Loaded+for+%27092009-04-12+12%3A00%3A00Mike+Edelman

In some organizations, highly-rated prospects like first baseman Lars Anderson, outfielder Josh Reddick, pitcher Nick Hagadone and infielder Oscar Tejada might open at Triple A.

Because the Pawtucket Red Sox have so much depth and talent, players of this caliber have been assigned to teams farther down the minor league ladder.

That could make for a most interesting season for the PawSox.

The deadline for the Rule 5 draft has passed and one of the three players Theo Epstein elected to add to the 40-man roster is left-handed reliever Hunter Jones. Jones is a 6′4″ 240lb control pitcher that has seen his career go from the operating table in college to the mound in Pawtucket in just over four years.
