I recently had a chance to ask Sox Director of Player Development Mike Hazen a few questions about the minor league off-season. Here are his responses (some of the questions have been abridged or edited for clarity):
Q: What is the level of coordination between the Red Sox coaches and the respective Latin club of a minor leaguer?
A: We do have relationships with some of the Latin American Winter League clubs, although not with all. Each player is handled differently in that a player may need to make up at-bats from a disabled list stint during the season or there could be specific fundamental work that we will send with the players. Either way we make contact with the player during the season to keep up with how they are performing.
