Craig Hansen has been optioned to Triple-A (gee, what a surprise…).
Alex Ochoa has accepted his assignment to Triple-A, and could have a chance of coming up as a backup outfielder due to injury.
Bryan Corey has been sent to minor league camp, which firms up the bullpen, looking such:
Jonathan Papelbon
Joel Pineiro
Brendan Donnelly
Hideki Okajima
J.C. Romero
Kyle Snyder
Mike Timlin – either Manny Delcarmen or Javier Lopez will occupy this spot until Timlin’s return, expected to be April 6.
Tim Wakefield battles former Sox farmhand Tony Armas today. View the live blog from Pittsburgh Lumber Co.!
UPDATE: It’s not the Trampoline. Javier Lopez has made the club, giving the Red Sox its third lefty, but don’t expect him to stick around for long. This gives the Red Sox two lefty specialists, but what I’ve heard is that the Sox plan on giving Romero a crack at righties.
The 25-man roster is now complete.
UPDATE TWO: The Red Sox traded journeyman backup catcher (many of those out there) Alberto Castillo to the Baltimore Orioles for their minor league player of the year, 27-year old outfielder Cory Keylor. Keylor hit .294/.365/.415 in Double-A last year with 10 steals and will either backup in Triple-A or report to Double-A.
