Curt Schilling was put on the 15 day disabled list today with a right shoulder problem. Earlier this week, he was bombed by the Atlanta Braves en route to not striking out a batter for the first time since 1993 and pitching around 88 miles an hour (shades of Jason Schmidt).
Josh Beckett and Julian Tavarez will move up a start in the rotation due to Thursday’s off-day while Tuesday’s starter is TBA.
Boston, we think, will probably call up a reliever whether it be Devern Hansack or Craig Breslow (Free Breslow!) until Tuesday, when the Red Sox will need to bring a starter up. Don’t look now, but Jon Lester is scheduled to pitch in Pawtucket on Tuesday.
Schilling is currently 6-4 in 15 games started on the season with a 4.20 ERA.
