GAME NOTES: I don’t even want to think what might happen around Red Sox territory if we lose a series to the Royals at home. This was supposed to be the stretch where the Sox strengthen an already lengthy lead in the division or just keep it around 9 games with the Yankees easy schedule, but instead they have plans to blow that scenario. It’s easy to feel uncomfortable about this lead right now: they’re lifeless in big situations, the Yankees have underperfomed their Pythag. record in a large way, and one team is hot while the other is middling. To keep up the .500 pattern, look for the Sox to pull out a win tonight against Odalis Perez, who has been downright awful the last 2 seasons (combined 299 H in just over 227 IP, 84 ERA+, 1.54 WHIP).
