Well, the Red Sox broke it open late and cruised to a 9-1 victory, sweeping the Angels and making sure that they were headed to their second ALCS in four years. Schilling avoided hurting his foot now and is now 9-2 with a 1.93 ERA in the postseason, numbers that will garner him entry into the Hall of Fame even though his regular season numbers aren’t quite there yet (but will be).
The celebration on the field was typical Sox, with just animated high-fives and backslapping. We have bigger and better things awaiting us.
As I write this, the Indians have jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top second against the Yankees. This game is very interesting because it could spell the end of Joe Torre, as well as be the final Yankee games played by Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte, Alex Rodriguez and the one and only Roger Clemens. I’m not making any predictions, but the Yankees could very well be a changed team after this game if they lose it.
Trot Nixon went yard, serving notice to the Red Sox that if the Indians should advance, he’ll be back to try to send a dagger in the Sox’s hearts.
Which won’t happen, but good luck trying!
