Sure, the background intents and purposes were evident. The added revenue, ticket sales and overseas fanfare were obvious positive influences on the investment. Scrapping the Yankees of their prized free agent target and sending the Red Sox to the top of the AL East food chain was undoubtedly a real possibility. But the real reason behind the pursuit of Matsuzaka was for a game like tonight.
