Each week, I will be participating in the 2008 MLB Blog Poll, put together by BaseballHappenings.com. Below are my current votes for the Most Valuable Player, Cy Young and Rookie of the Year awards. These votes will be tabulated among other votes from other blogs to create a running master list of voting as the year progresses. Statistics are as of 10:00 p.m. Sunday. This week is the N.L. voting. Votes were asked to be turned in by the end of Monday.
MVP:
1. RF Justin Upton, ARI: Could a 20-year old win the MVP? Well… hard to argue against his production.
2. 1B Albert Pujols, STL: No one expected the Cards to content. The pitching and Pujols are a major reason why they are.
3. LF Pat Burrell, PHI: Burrell has been a much-needed force in the early going.
Cy Young:
1. SP Cole Hamels, PHI: Three starts has been enough to show why he’s eventually going to win a Cy.
2. SP Ben Sheets, MIL: Can he stay healthy this year? If so, he’ll be in the race all year.
3. SP Jake Peavy, SD: Reigning Cy winner sure benefits from Petco, huh?
Rookie of the Year:
1. SP Hiroki Kuroda, LAD: Yeah, Cueto’s getting the ink. Kuroda’s been dazzling out west.
2. SP Johnny Cueto: Quite the impressive pitcher and perhaps the most hotly pursued fantasy player last week.
3. RF Kosuke Fukudome, CHC: Slow start in spring training didn’t seem to matter, huh?
