We’ve been speculating for a long time about the future of Mike Timlin with this team given his performance and today the Red Sox “phantom injury department” drummed up another to keep Mike Timlin from suffering the humiliation of being released. Timlin will go on the 15 day DL making roster space for the returning Daisuke Matsuzaka. This also means that Chris Smith will get a reprieve from the short trip back to Pawtucket.
Just to be clear…I don’t doubt that something is ailing Timlin. He hasn’t been right all season. But I also think that the timing of the DL stint is as much “injury related” as “performance related”.
