Being a Boston sports fan has been nothing short of terrific the since the start of the 21st century. Starting with the Pats win over the Rams and continuing (hopefully) into the future. With the success of 3 of the 4 major franchises in the area, I find myself falling into the trap of trusting every decision that the managers/coaches of our teams make. I take the stance that they know much better than me what is best for their squad and that the move will work out, because lately it has, for the most part.
In tonight’s ALCS game 6, some have been questioning whether Jon Lester should be starting, leaving Josh Beckett to start game 7. It makes sense on some levels, because Beckett is trying to recover from an injury, so giving him an extra day off would seem to make sense. I am also a firm believer that anything can happen in a game 7, and it is a necessity to give yourself the best chance of just getting there.
On the other hand, Jon Lester has thrown many more innings this year than he has at any point in his life, and Terry Francona is taking the perspective of having to win two games anyway, so it shouldn’t matter who starts in each.
Although Tito has made some great moves in his reign as manager, his poor ones seem to be overlooked. (Beckett in the 5th of game 2?). My heart wants the Red Sox to win so dearly, but my mind is fearful that this move won’t work out. I gotta wrap up quickly as the roommates are calling, so here’s a quick guess.
Prediction: Rays 6, Sox 3. See ya in Ft. Myers.
(By the way, when this blows up in my face, don’t say I didn’t “believe”. Faith is sometimes irrational)
