The Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics had already won their playoff games. So, It couldn’t have been more fitting that Jonathan Papelbon had a chance to close out the Boston sports tri-fecta.
Papelbon made it as interesting as Glen “Big Baby” Davis taking the final shot against the Orlando Magic closing out the ninth with two runners in scoring position and no outs. Paps struck out the side dialing it up against Carlos Pena – MLB home run leader – B.J. Upton and Carl Crawford.
Jason Bay provided the game-winning hit in the bottom of the eighth on a wall-ball double to score David Ortiz.
Star of the Game – Papelbon
The suggestion has been made for a hockey-type 3-star rating system so if there is enough positive feedback for that I will change it.
Papelbon gets the choice here because he buckled down and finished off what could have been a terrible inning for the Red Sox.
He also did it in emphatic fashion.
Next Game – 5/12 vs. Los Angeles Angels – Justin Masterson/Jered Weaver
After 17-straight games without a day off the Red Sox could certainly use some rest.
