The Red Sox didn’t want to be the only Boston team to lose tonight.
J.D. Drew started Boston’s rally with a solo-shot (5) in the second inning tying the game at 1-1. Drew would also help finish off the Angels in the ninth.
Drew lead off the ninth with a single. After a Jeff Bailey fly out to center, Jason Varitek drove Drew home from first on a double to deep center field giving the Red Sox a 4-3 edge.
Varitek advanced to third on a wild-pitch but Jacoby Ellsbury and Julio Lugo couldn’t drive in the insurance run popping out and grounding out respectively.
Jonathan Papelbon stranded Bobby Abreu at second base after a walk and a steal (13) striking out Torii Hunter to earn his ninth save of the season.

Stars of the Game – Hockey Style

1) Drew – Sparked the rally with the homer in the second and did his job as the leadoff hitter reaching base in the ninth.
2) Varitek – Drove the game winning run home. Can’t argue with that.
3) Ramon Ramirez – Earning his fourth win of the season and keeping Mike Napoli at second base.

Next Game – 5/13 vs. Los Angeles Angels – Tim Wakefield/Matt Palmer

Palmer is 3-0 on the season with a 3.06 ERA with wins against the Tigers, Yankees and Royals.
