After another solid, but hardly perfect, start from Brad Penny yesterday I have to wonder again what to do with Clay Buchholz.
In case you had not heard, Clay came within three outs of throwing a perfect game in Louisville (Projo piece on it:http://www.projo.com/pawsox/content/pawtucket_red_sox_0525.185f539e.html). After giving up a hit to start the ninth he struck out the next two and got the last out of his shut out on a weak grounder. His line for the day: 9 IP, 1H, 0BB, 7K, 97 pitches.
Clay’s numbers for the season so far are incredible. There is very little excuse for keeping him in Pawtucket at this point. I want to hear what everyone else thinks we should do with him. Personally I would like to see Penny dealt, have Clay take his spot until Smoltz is ready, and then see how Clay fits in with injuries to the rest of our starters. What do you think?
