Interest in baseball rises in Europe

In advance of the Baseball World Cup (yes, there is one, independent of the World Baseball Classic that MLB does not allow its players to participate in) in September, Europe is seeing a spike in popularity...

The contract year: Jason Bay version.

I will just come out and say it. Jason Bay is playing well, really well. And Jason Bay is in his contract year.

Now, I'm not suggesting that is why Bay is playing so well. And I do not think that Bay will kill the ball like this, all season long.

Actually the largest reason why Bay seems to be excelling is because pitchers just keep grooving pitches right into his "Hot Zone(s)."

Is Theo Strategizing?

Theo & his crew are constantly searching for ways to improve the team, and I imagine with the health issues…

BOS 4, TAM 3: Dialed up

The Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics had already won their playoff games. So, It couldn't have been more fitting that Jonathan Papelbon had a chance to close out the Boston sports tri-fecta.

Red Sox call up Daniel Bard

The Red Sox purchased the contract of RHP Daniel Bard from Triple-A Pawtucket, reports the Providence Journal. Bard struck out 29 batters in 16 innings, saving six games. He should immediately become a late-inning option in a Sox bullpen that has struggled as of late. No word on the corresponding roster move, as the Sox will have to not only make room on the 25-man roster, but the 40-man as well.

Trivia: Rhode Island HRs

Rocco Baldelli hit his first home run as a Sox Saturday. It was the second home run ever hit by a Rhode Islander as a Red Sox. Who hit the first one?

TAM 14, BOS 5: Torcher

Evan Longoria is being handed the American League MVP award courtesy of the Boston Red Sox pitching staff.

5/9: Southpaw Supremacy

Kid Kaz has owned the Red Sox at Fenway Park over the course of his career. Yet despite the 2.88 ERA and 72 strike outs in 68.2 innings pitched, Kazmir is still only a game above .500 against the Sox at Fenway (5-4). Truth be told, this hasn't been the same Scott Kazmir that we've been used to seeing. He's averaging a career low 7.6 K/9 and his average fastball velocity has dipped below 90 MPH for the first time in his career. Let's hope Fenway Park doesn't bring out the best in him. We know it does of his opponent.
