When Clay Buchholz gets a definitive spot in the Boston Red Sox pitching rotation it’s going to be exciting to watch.
Buchholz won his first (spot) start this season pitching five plus innings allowing just four hits, one run, three walks and three strikeouts.
Unfortunately for Buchholz, he was sent back down to Triple-A Pawtucket after the win.
Kevin Youkilis hit his 17th home run of the season – a two-run shot in the first – giving Boston an early lead.
David Ortiz notched a two-run double in the fifth inning.
Jonathan Papelbon closed out the ninth for his 24th save.

Star of the Game – Buchholz

He simply had every pitch going in any count. Small sample inning wise but Buchholz’ stuff was stellar tonight.
Next Game – 7/18 vs. Toronto Blue Jays – Brad Penny/Marc Rzepczynski
Boston needs to sinking the fading Jays.
