Brad Penny pitched six plus innings allowing just five hits and one unearned run to stop Boston’s five game losing streak.
Jonathan Papelbon made it interesting in the ninth inning but slammed the door with two strikeouts earning his 25th save of the season.
With the win, Penny is now 7-4 on the season.
The Red Sox scored two runs in the fourth on a Jason Varitek RBI single and a sac fly from Jed Lowrie.
J.D. Drew brought home a run in the fifth with an RBI ground out.
